Periodic Trend
A recurring pattern in element properties that changes predictably with increasing atomic number across the periodic table.
Metallic Character
A measure of how readily an element loses electrons, increasing towards the left and bottom of the periodic table.
Electron Loss
A process favored by metals, making it easier for them to form positive ions and display metallic properties.
Metals
Elements typically found on the left and bottom of the periodic table, known for easily losing electrons.
Nonmetals
Elements generally located towards the top right of the periodic table, tending to gain electrons rather than lose them.
Metalloids
Elements with properties intermediate between metals and nonmetals, often found between these groups on the periodic table.
Period
A horizontal row in the periodic table where properties change progressively from left to right.
Group
A vertical column in the periodic table where elements share similar chemical behaviors.
Atomic Number
A unique value for each element, increasing sequentially across the periodic table and influencing periodic trends.
Top Right Corner
A region of the periodic table associated with elements having low metallic character and high nonmetallic properties.
Left Side
A region of the periodic table where elements exhibit high metallic character and readily lose electrons.
Bottom
A region of the periodic table where elements display increased metallic character due to easier electron loss.
